Amanita pantherinoides is mycorrhizal and grows under conifers, especially Douglas fir. It is usually found in forests, but occasionally cities as well. It was originally believed to be the same speicies as Amanita pantherina, which grows in easter North America and Europe, but was determined to be its own species.
